This is true. but any time anybody says that, what they’re really implying is that you’ve abandoned your artistic integrity—at least in their eyes.

My take is a little bit simpler: we think that good stories will sell better. So if a series is successful for any length of time, that means its stories are connecting with a readership. Not every comic is for every reader, not every comic is to my tastes either, but if an audience is coming through the door, then you’re doing something right.

The notion that true “art” cannot be commercially viable is adolescent twaddle.
